The 9th edition of FEMUA, the Urban Music Festival of Anoumabo, sponsored by President HENRI KONAN BEDIE, ended on Sunday 24 April 2016 with a series of exceptional concerts.
For a week, Côte d’Ivoire will have vibrated to the sound of rhythms coming from the continent, America and France. A festival that confirms, despite the drawback of this edition, a little more its rank of major festival in Africa.
It was under the theme « Youth and Development » that the 2016 edition of the Urban Music Festival was held in Abidjan and Korhogo from 19 to 24 April 2016 (finally canceled due to the death of PAPA WEMBA) Anoumabo on which the symbols of the number 9 really hovered, which are: the ideal, the knowledge but also the withdrawal and the austerity.
As tradition has imposed it for a few years, the 25th of February, the UNESCO IX Room in Paris, hosted the ceremony for the launching of this great cultural festival, posters of Ivorian and international music. Once again, FEMUA’s general commissioner, Salif TRAORE, told A’SALFO, leader of the Ivorian music group MAGIC SYSTEM, the promoter of the festival, who unveiled the content of FEMUA 9 which, once again, did not fail to make Anoumabo the cultural capital of the world in the space of a week.
For this edition, the public was delighted by the talent of 15 artists including 9 internationals from Africa, Jamaica and France, and 6 Ivorians: the winner of the RFI 2015 discovery prize, the Cape Verdean ELIDA ALMEIDA who offered the first live of the festival at the French institute. It will then be imitated by the Ivorian Boni Gnahoré (Wednesday 20 April) and the Malian Vieux FarkaTouré (Thursday 21 April). Also present for this edition, Congolese PAPA WEMB. Everyday on the scene of the main site on the penultimate day of the festival after only 3 titles, the Jamaican IHJAMAN LEVI, the charming Cameroonian CHARLOTTE DIPANDA, the French rap rapateur KERY JAMES Togo’s TOOFAN, Ghana’s DADDY LUMBA, Chadian CELESTIN MAWNDOE and Ivorians JOHN KIFFY, NST COFFIES, NGUESS BONSENS, YABONGO LOVA and ABOU NIDAL, all of whom offered free moments of dreams to the public estimated at around 150 thousand for the entire duration of the festival, under the eye of the national and international press who spared no effort to ensure wide coverage of the FEMUA.
GAOU PRODUCTION, the pilot structure of the urban music festival of Anoumabo had, for this edition, planned that the closing concert and the popular cross are held in Korhogo (city distant of Abidjan more than 600 km) was for the previous edition with the communes of Abobo, Yopougon and Koumassi; but unfortunately the death of the king of the Congolese rumba in the early morning of Sunday 24 April 2016 resulted in the cancellation of this stage.
The opening ceremony of the Femua 9 took place in a warm and festive atmosphere as usual in the presence of President Henri Konan Bedie, sponsor of this edition. The keynote addresses of Mrs. Kandia Camara, Minister of National Education, Mr. Maurice Kouakou Bandama, Minister of Culture and Francophonie, and Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Minister of Youth Promotion, Employment youth and civic service as well as those of several other personalities.
The DNA of FEMUA being the social aspect very dear to the members of the group MAGIC SYSTEM, in relation to their modest origins which motivated throughout the festival, their support to the most deprived, the first stone of the EPP Magic System of Séguela was symbolically placed in the school of Marcory Anumabo by the sponsor and members of the government present.
FEMUA KIDS, one of the festival’s innovations, took place on Wednesday 20 April 2016, from 9 am to 5 pm, in Anoumabo for the benefit of children from disadvantaged groups through a number of programmed activities including educational games and which were sanctioned by various present. FEMUA KIDS was a real moment of sharing, a magical moment when the children spearhead of the country, future generation, have expressed themselves through playful workshops, songs, and take advice from parents and elders present on square. Educational and human values of life, like living together, sharing and working together, were recalled to them during these reunions. The icing on the cake for this day was the performances of many renowned artists such as Magic System, Serges Beynaud, JC Pluriel, Marshal DJ, etc…
