The eighth edition of the Festival of the urban music of Abidjan (FEMUA 8), scheduled from 21 to 26 April, was officially launched this Friday, March 27, at the Hotel Pulman, in Abidjan.
This launch ceremony saw the presence of several personalities, as well as traditional leaders that the one of the village of Anoumabo, who thanked the Group Magic System for this initiative with the first edition coincided with his arrival on the throne. « Bonoua town has its Carnival, we at Anoumabo popo, we have the FEMUA, which will be eternal » said.
Speaking, the Commissioner General of the Femua, said Salif Traoré has ‘ A’salfo, also lead vocal of the Group Magic system has promised a special festival this year, which will revolve around the celebration of the 10 years in Côte d’Ivoire of MTN, leading partner of the event.
This year, ECOWAS that celebrates its 40 years, is alongside the festival for the 8th edition, in order to give it its support. It is in this context that Mr. Kadre Desire Ouedraogo, President of the Commission of the regional Institution has agreed to be the godfather of this edition. « The theme of this edition is devoted to integration and reconciliation of peoples, we are in an election year in Ivory Coast, and it is important to cultivate ‘live together’. « We want to show it through the artists that we invite, show us that music can also contribute to the reconciliation of peoples, » Asalfo continued.
Next to the 10 years of MTN, the « Tropical colors » show, broadcast on Rfi and who started the group, will be celebrating also his 20 years at Anoumabo, as well for the duration of the festival, the Claudy Siar facilitator will do the show with the public.
As innovation of the 2015 edition, the FEMUA will be held on three locations, Anoumabo (Marcory), Plateau and Koumassi. The plateau it will be at the French cultural center become Institute French, that will be held shows.
13 artists are expected at this 8th season: nine artists from 7 countries of Africa. It comes to Fally Ipupa (DRC), Bracket (Nigeria), Freshlyground (South Africa), Joel Sebunjo (Uganda), Philip Monteiro (Cape Verde), Habib Koïté (Mali), Smarty (Burkina Faso) and Bailly Spinto, Antoinette Konan, Ras Goody Brown and Makers Zouglou artists for ivory coast. Zaho and Meta and the Cornerstones will represent respectively the France and the United States. Various artists will play twice this year.
The FEMUA is also a social side and sports; Socially, organizers offer each year a Hauptschule, this year, in partnership with the Coffee-Cocoa Council, a school with six classes that will be built in the West of the country, the most affected area during the post-election crisis.
In sporting terms, more than 7,000 participants are expected for a popular cross which the start will be given at Anoumabo and arrival at Kumasi. There is also the tournament of ECOWAS.
The FEMUA will open at Anoumabo and closes with a concert in the Square Inch’Allah in the town of Kumasi. 100,000 festival-goers are expected per day at this 8th edition.
Recall that the FEMUA has been created to allow the population to Anoumabo to access a free show that she would not have had the means to afford otherwise. It also has a social and charitable dimension very important.
Since its inception in 2008, the festival has already helped the construction of two schools (a primary and the other kindergarten) and financial and material donations to various organizations such as hospitals and orphanages of Côte d’Ivoire.
